Gas System Design and Installation

Gas System Design and Installation

The most reliable gas systems don’t happen by accident. They begin with rigorous engineering — load analysis, pressure calculations, regulator sizing, and pipe routing developed with an understanding of how the system will perform not just at commissioning but over its entire operational life. They are built by teams who execute the design with precision, keep future loads in mind, and test every section before it goes into service.

Baron Utilities provides integrated gas system design and installation for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients throughout California. With in-house engineering capability and field crews experienced on some of the most complex gas projects in the state, we deliver complete, turnkey gas infrastructure from the first calculation through the final inspection. Our clients include Tesla, See’s Candies, the University of California system, NASA, and U.S. Army, Air Force installations — facilities whose gas systems cannot fail, and who rely on us to execute perfectly.

In-House Gas System Design

Some contractors can install a gas system from someone else’s plans. Few can develop those plans themselves. Baron Utilities’ in-house design capability means our clients have a single accountable party for the complete project — from engineering through installation.

Our design process covers every element of a gas distribution system: gas load analysis with peak simultaneous demand scenarios, pipe sizing and pressure drop calculations per NFPA 54, NFPA 58, and CPUC General Order 112, service and meter sizing, and regulator station design with appropriate fail safes to protect the entire system. For systems requiring elevated operating pressures, our high-pressure design capability covers industrial process equipment, laboratory gas systems, and specialized manufacturing applications that go beyond standard distribution pressure.

Commercial and Industrial Gas System Installation

Baron Utilities self-performs all gas installation work — our own qualified technicians install the systems we design, providing a single point of accountability from the first pipe hanger to the final pressure test.

We install both above-ground and underground gas distribution systems. For buried piping, we use welded steel or medium density polyethylene (MDPE) depending on system requirements. For above-ground service lines, we use galvanized steel or coated black iron piping to provide quality atmospheric protection. All buried installations include proper bedding and backfill, cathodic protection where required, and pressure testing before backfill.

We work in active environments — occupied buildings, operating production facilities, live campuses — and we understand how to phase and manage our work to maintain existing gas service during construction while minimizing disruption to facility operations.

From Design Through Commissioning

A Baron Utilities engagement doesn’t end when the pipe is in the ground. We pressure test every section of every system to code-required standards, produce as-built documentation that gives our clients an accurate record of their gas infrastructure, and provide commissioning support to confirm gas pressure and flow meet equipment requirements under actual operating conditions. Our clients receive a fully tested, fully compliant, fully documented gas system.
