Specialty Gas Services

Specialty Gas Services for Commercial and Industrial Clients

Not every gas project fits neatly into a single category. Commercial and industrial gas systems require a wide range of specialized services throughout their operational life — work that demands technical expertise, the right equipment, and a contractor who has done it before on consequential systems. The services below represent the specialty work our commercial and industrial clients call on Baron Utilities for regularly. If you need something not listed here, contact us — there’s a strong chance we do it.

Hot Taps and Line Stops

A hot tap connects a new branch line to an existing gas main while the system remains pressurized and in service — no shutdown required. Baron Utilities performs hot taps on gas systems of all sizes and operating pressures, with detailed pre-job planning to ensure safe execution.

A line stop uses equipment inserted through a hot tap fitting to temporarily isolate a section of a live gas main, allowing repairs or modifications to be made without shutting down the entire system. Line stops are particularly valuable where a full shutdown would halt operations, affect multiple buildings, or require extensive relight work afterward. Baron Utilities plans and executes line stop operations in coordination with facility management to minimize impact on gas-dependent processes.

Temporary Gas Bypasses

When a section of gas piping needs to be repaired or replaced and taking it out of service would affect critical equipment or building occupants, a temporary bypass keeps the system running while the permanent work is completed. Baron Utilities will perform the bypass design, installation, permanent repair, bypass removal, and system restoration for your natural gas or propane project.

Gas Purges

Gas purging is required any time a large system is taken out of service and hazardous amounts of gas would be let out into the atmosphere. Improper purging can create an explosive mixture inside the piping as well as a flammable hazard at the location of the gas work. Baron Utilities performs gas purges using tried and true procedures, evacuating gas from piping safely and properly.

Valve Work, Regulators, Meters, and Pressure Testing

Gas valves that are corroded, leaking at the stem, or at end of service life create safety and operational risks. Baron Utilities installs and replaces gas valves of all types on commercial and industrial systems — from individual equipment shutoffs to main distribution line valves — with leak testing on every installation.

Regulator sizing and replacement is something we do every day. Whether a regulator is failing to hold set pressure, has exceeded service life, or a system change requires a different capacity, we handle the swap with the right equipment spec’d for your inlet conditions and downstream demand. We also install and replace sub-meters for billing, load tracking, and compliance with utility or lease requirements.

Pressure testing confirms system integrity before commissioning, after repairs, and for compliance purposes. We perform pneumatic pressure testing, pressure decay testing for leak isolation, and post-repair verification — all documented with calibrated equipment to applicable code standards.

Generator Gas System Installations

Reliable generator fuel supply starts with a system designed and installed to deliver the right pressure and volume under load. Baron Utilities designs and installs natural gas and propane fuel systems for both primary power generators and backup standby units, serving commercial facilities, industrial operations, data centers, agricultural operations, and critical infrastructure sites throughout California.

Our generator gas work includes new service line installation, regulator and meter sizing for generator BTU demand, shutoff valve placement, flexible connector installation, and pressure testing prior to startup — all documented to NFPA 54, NFPA 58, and local AHJ requirements. Whether you’re adding a new standby unit, upgrading an undersized fuel supply, or converting from diesel to natural gas, Baron Utilities handles the gas side from design through final inspection.

Gas Line Locating and As-Builts

Baron Utilities provides gas line locating using electronic equipment to identify the routing and depth of buried distribution piping, and develops as-built documentation that gives facility teams an accurate record of their gas infrastructure — a practical first step for facilities with undocumented or aging systems.

Our Operator-Qualified locators in conjunction with our plan drafters can create state and federally compliant gas maps for jurisdictional gas systems throughout California.
